During a 10-day winter break field experience in Guatemala, a group of grad students met with small-scale coffee farmers to learn about their key needs, generate product ideas, and prototype solutions. The project was organized by the Integrated Product Design program, a joint initiative from the School of Design, the Wharton School, and the School of Engineering and Applied Science. (Photos)

WHYY interviewed Hannah Bennett of the Libraries about an unlabeled trove of photographs donated to Penn by urban planner Ed Bacon before his death in 2005. The photos are now being posted to Flickr to solicit public help identifying the locations depicted. “You don’t have to be a Bacon scholar—or a Bacon enthusiast—to enjoy these pictures,” says Bennett.

On Knowledge@Wharton, Susan Wachter and Benjamin Keys discuss the future of the U.S. real estate market. So far this year, the market is facing challenges from rising interest rates and, in many areas, prohibitively expensive housing. “What’s going to keep this market growing are millennials and the affordable Southeast,” says Wachter. The Historic Medical Library
Unique collection
Penn is home to countless old and treasured spaces, including the Historic Medical Library at Pennsylvania Hospital. The first of its kind in the country, the library houses more than 13,000 books, some dating back to 1483. These days, the library is maintained like a rare-book collection and is viewable by appointment.

India’s Finance Minister Piyush Goyal has been awarded the Kleinman Center for Energy Policy’s Carnot Prize for his work bringing sustainable energy to thousands of villages across India. His efforts demonstrate that universal energy access can be achieved rapidly. “That’s something nobody had ever imagined could be done,” says Goyal.
