| How are the colors created? The colors are created as a collection, two or three times a year, depending on the mood! I'm inspired by a theme, collect images in a mood board, then choose four or five shades that I'd like to add to my palette. I then work the pigments to obtain these shades, and sometimes let myself be seduced by surprise colors born of an unexpected mix of materials! | What makes them special? La Nouvelle Vague Couleurs' unique shades will seduce you with their creamy texture and hyper-pigmentation, allowing them to be used either as dense as gouache or as light as watercolor; the choice is yours! | | | And their manufacture? All colors are handmade in Paris in our Place des Vosges workshop using products that are non-toxic for both people and the environment. Pigments from the Luberon, good honey from Brittany, gum arabic, a few essential oils, a little patience, and a lot of passion; and presto! Our colors are ready to join your palette! | | | – The Palates – ( and a rinse cup ) | | ABOUT BEAUTIFUL SWIRLS The creator of Beautiful Swirls is Kira Leihe, a ceramicist based in Oakland, California. They offer a variety of ceramic pieces such as bowls, teapots, colanders, planters, mugs, and ceramic watercolor palettes. They work primarily with clay, creating both hand-built and wheel-thrown ceramics, all functional works that are simultaneously small pieces of art. As a small batch potter they enjoy spending time on each piece, deliberating over the design choices that are calling out to them as if they ate solving a puzzle. It's a beautiful process, and they love that they are able to give each piece a unique personality that way. It is their hope that their ceramics will bring joy to their users, while serving their purpose well. | | EMMA KOHLMANN WATERCOLORS Over the past decade, artist Emma Kohlmann has harnessed the expressive possibilities of watercolor to develop an astonishing and intimate practice. In the resounding fluidity of her paintings, Kohlmann maps the lineaments and concavities of embodied moments with exquisite sensitivity, celebrating a sensuality freed from analysis and disabusing gender and the human body of their exhausted mythologies. Containing hundreds of selections from 2011 to 2021, during which Kohlmann crafted countless works on paper using sumi-e ink washes and other techniques, Emma Kohlmann: Watercolors is a survey of an artist working intuitively to generate representative possibilities that are playfully otherworldly and resolutely, thrillingly free. Hardcover Book, 332 Pages, Color Illustrations Throughout
