The 5-Minute Habit That Can Change Your Marriage |
Every so often an assessment reveals something a couple already feels but has never said out loud. |
We built an assessment to go along with The Creation of Us. It measures three things: who you are as an individual, who you are as a couple, and how well you are supporting the person your spouse is becoming. Thousands of people have now taken it. |
And of every statement on that assessment, one scores lower than all the rest: |
We protect daily and weekly moments to disconnect from distractions, and focus purely on each other. |

Out of everything the assessment measures, this was the statement that tripped couples up the most. The daily one. |
Here's what I find fascinating: couples who score low here almost always love each other deeply. They score low because of one word. Daily. It feels impossible. |
When people read that statement, most picture the same thing: an uninterrupted hour of eye contact. No phones. No kids. On a Monday, between work and drop-off and dinner and bedtime. No wonder the score is low. |
But that's the myth. A connected marriage was never built on one big, uninterrupted hour. It grows out of something far smaller and far more doable, and it starts with about five minutes. |
Here's what that actually looks like in a real marriage, plus the surprising reason it takes all the pressure off your anniversaries, date nights, and big gestures. 👇 |

📖 Going deeper: This week's theme comes straight from Chapter 6 of The Creation of Us, where Kevin lays out dozens of small "rhythms" for connecting. Pick one you're not doing yet and try it for a week. |

One more thing before you go 👇 |
This week I was back in Colorado Springs to be with Focus on the Family. As I was in the airport, I overheard someone talking about the end of a relationship and how shockingly fast it imploded. |
It reminded me, people often think relationships end quickly. But I have a different persecptive. Here’s a 60 second thought from the Denver Airport. |
