Aus-PNG Network, Alumni Insights!

Dear Alumni,

We hope this email finds you well.

Rugby league is more than a sport in Papua New Guinea. It is a way of life and one of the most enduring points of connection between Australians and Papua New Guineans. The announcement of the PNG NRL Chiefs, set to join the NRL in 2028 and backed by $600 million in Australian Government funding, marks a significant moment for both nations.

As part of our ongoing Alumni Insights series (last time we asked you to reflect on your biggest takeaways from the Emerging Leaders Dialogue), we would love to gather your thoughts on the PNG Chiefs and what this development means for the bilateral relationship. This would involve sharing a short response of around 100 words to the following question:

Rugby league has always connected Australians and Papua New Guineans at the community level. How do you think the PNG NRL Chiefs deal reflects the current state of the bilateral relationship, and what potential does this franchise carry to strengthen people-to-people links?

If you are able to contribute a short response, we would love to hear from you!

Over the year, we will continue to reach out with similar questions to gather and share alumni views on new developments in the Aus-PNG relationship.

Best wishes,

Aus-PNG Network
