Shavuot, Shabbat & Hikathon

View this email in your browser

Hello everyone,

Hope you are having a nice off-season, maybe someplace warm and beachy. Telluride is quiet, even if the world is not. We're hoping to see you this summer, or sooner, if you'll be here for Shavuot.  Please have a peek at the calendar below, and pencil us in!

Rotary x TJC Hikathon (June)

First off, we’re hooking up with the Rotary Club on a hikathon, which is a joint fundraiser for both TJC and Rotary—and a fun excuse to take hikes & walks wherever you are.

Sign up now and hike during the month of June. Win prizes and raise funds for two important local groups.

Details below.

Shavuot – May 21

There will be cheese, learning, and wine.

Hopefully we luck out with the weather and can make it another patio party. Space is limited.

Details below.

Community Shabbat – June 5

June Shabbat announced.

Hosted by longtime locals, this will be an early-season, low-key affair with a short, casual service followed by beverages and heavy apps.

Details below.

Summer Calendar (so far)

The rest of our summer calendar is also on the books, and we will announce more details as the summer progresses. For now, mark your calendar.

July 28 – Cooking Class with Ah Haa
July 31 – Community Shabbat
August 28 – Community Shabbat
September 10 – Cooking Class
September 11–13 – Rosh Hashanah
September 20–21 – Yom Kippur

Opportunities to Engage

We’re looking for a few ways people can help strengthen our community this season.

Tisha B’Av film host (July)

We are seeking a home with a living room or home theater setup that can comfortably host 15–20 people for a Tisha B’Av film screening. (Film not yet chosen)

Hospitality for visiting guests

We are hoping to arrange hospitality for a few visitors:

  • Hosting the Rabbi and his wife for a few days during the High Holidays, or for a Shabbat or holiday dinner
  • Hosting a visiting musician and her family on August 28

Shabbat & High Holidays set-up and clean-up

Volunteers are welcome to help with set-up and clean-up at upcoming Shabbat gatherings. Any time you can offer is appreciated. We will also need volunteers on the high holidays to help with set up, greeting, and tear down. Email sari@telluridejewishcommunity.com if you're willing to help out.

TJC is excited to join the Telluride Rotary Hikeathon this June as the TELLURIDE TREKKIN’ TRIBE! From May 31–June 28, hike anywhere (local or afar), set a goal, and invite pledges per mile or flat donations.

Register today and hike May 31 - June 28 - The sign up page will send you to become a participant.  It is automatically adding you to the Telluride TJC Trekkin' Tribe.  Please complete the $25 participating option and then set a goal per mile.

Please join a small group for a bit of Jewish study paired with cheese, wine and conversation. RSVP by May 18. Address provided upon signup. We look forward to seeing you there.
Please join us for the first Shabbat of summer. This will be an intimate gathering to connect with friends over a short service followed by heavy appetizers, drinks and conversation. RSVP and sign up for a dish here. Address of event shared upon RSVP.
